Disability Awareness, Unplugged Coding, and Filling Up Our Put Up Jar!

On Monday, we had several guests visit to teach our class about different tools that are used by people with disabilities. We had the opportunity to explore an app that would help someone communicate who is unable to talk. We also learned about different types of prosthetics and tried out different wheelchairs in the hallways.

We learned about different types of writer's crafts that are used in books.
This can include writing in all caps, highlighting certain words in colors, writing words in shapes and different sizes. We tried to use some of these crafts in our own writing during Writer's Workshop.

Mrs. Johnson's class came to visit the room today for an unplugged coding activity.
We listened to the story The Gruffalo.

After listening to the story, we worked on recalling the characters that the mouse met in the story in order. We then "programmed" a friend to move to the correct character on the floor by using various hand signals.Afterwards, we programmed our friend to move to the correct order to the end of the story where the mouse ends up with the nut.

I was even lucky enough to get "programmed!"

I had another wonderful surprise when I came back from lunch/recess!

Book Clubs have started in Room 8.
We are working on discussing what we read in the book with others and
answering a wide-range of questions about the text.

We did it!
We filled up our Put Up Jar.
Our class earned PJ and Stuffed Animal Day on Friday!

Mrs. Comitor's class came to visit for our final lesson with Disability Awareness.
We learned about even more tools that are used to help those with needs.
We saw different videos about service dogs and how they help so many people.
